I did my BSc in Electrical Engineering at Tehran University. I joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Calgary in August 1992. I like Calgary and its friendly people.
I did my MSc in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering with Dr. Bruton. My research focus is Motion Estimation, Video Compression and Signal Processing. with emphasis on international video and image compression standards like MPEG and JPEG.
The title of my thesis is "The Frequency Response Measurement of Raster-Scanned Video Systems and Motion Estimation Using Three-Dimensional Linear Trajectory Filters". During my research we contributed in three ways to the field of Multi-Dimensional and Video Signal Processing:
First we designed a second order three-dimensional linear trajectory filter with improved characteristics (better angular selectivity and reduced warping effect) compared to the first order filter of that type. These filters, which are first proposed by others in our research group at the University of Calgary, are designed to filter raster-scanned video signals and selectively enhance components of the video sequence. There are a number of applications for these filters including motion estimation, traffic control, enhancement, etc. My work is the improvement of some aspects of those filters. The first order filter of this type which has been implemented by Bertschmann, video data compression.
During my research at Masters level, I have come up with some other ideas for motion estimation and frequency response measurement and filtering.
